Toolkit

Why do we need a Project GO toolkit?

Over the past four years, Project GO has been working with communities in Se Minnesota to help design and implement unique after-school programs that connect children to nature.  Communities are very excited for this kind of programming, but have many doubts that they can sustain a program.  Countless inquiries and questions have encouraged Project GO to develop a toolkit that will help guide communities through the stages of designing, implementing, evaluating and sustaining their programs.  The toolkits will be free-of-charge and are expected to be available to communities throughout Minnesota by the end of 2010.

What’s In The Toolkit?

The Project GO toolkit will consist of small handbook (approximately 60 pages), highlighting the stages of developing a program.  From surveying the community and identifying the greenspaces and under-served populations in the community, to screening and training volunteers, promoting your program and finding local sponsors to fund your activities.

A CD-ROM with all neccessary templated forms as well as a DVD with video footage from our pilot projects, will also be included in the toolkit.  Small start-up bags with basic supplies (first aid kit, whistle, trail cards, rope, blindfolds, etc.) will help program leaders plan several month’s worth of activities.

The toolkit is being funded through grants from several agencies including the U of MN Regional Sustainable Development Partnership, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources and the US Fish and Wildlife Service.  Pending grants to help support this project include the LCCMR and the Environmental Protection Agency.
